and also …

I’m not going to blog about work, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I like my job! It’s been just over a week, and I have a good feeling about it.

It was almost exactly 2 years ago that I started at PM, and I was thinking about that today on the subway ride home. I suddenly remembered crying in my apartment shortly after starting at PM!! Looking back on it now, that reaction was perhaps a little overly dramatic, but I was really bored and trapped there, especially for the first few weeks, so it made sense at the time! There have been *no* tears this time around and in fact I’m surprised and delighted at how open and welcoming everybody is! Most people on my team take an actual lunch break and we go out for lunch, which is SUCH a relief! :) Regularly eating lunch in front of a monitor is dehumanizing!! Don’t do it people!

I noticed two females of around my age (or perhaps younger) on the subway reading books written by this guy Chuck Klosterman . The first girl was reading “sex, drugs and cocoa puffs”. I saw her yesterday on my way to work. The second girl was reading “willing myself to read”. I saw her on my way back from work today.

My curiosity was piqued, so I googled the guy and was disappointed to find out that he’s an ex Spin magazine guy who writes about pop culture. He looks very corny. He even has a beard and those nerd glasses! In his defence though, the nerd glasses in the wikipedia picture look suspicious ..maybe the image was doctored and somebody added those glasses to make him extra corny! If so, it worked!

  1. I see you figured out how to get the comments posted…I was worried that I’d only imagined leaving one :P

As one of the 2 people you shared a work space with in your first weeks at PriceMetrix I’m sorry that it made you cry to be there. I regret not eating away from my desk more with you then – although I’m glad for all the times we did eat lunch and go for coffee together :) Remember when my sister was working there? That was great because I made us both lunch every day and we ate together in the kitchen. Somehow because it was my sister it felt more natural to do that instead of eating at my desk…

I’m glad that you like your new coworkers and job and are feeling good about it.

  2. I’m also sorry to hear that we made you cry…
And I can’t wait to hear about all of your new adventures — including your new job!

  3. Good grief. I’m glad you got out of your prison. Its never good to feel so unhappy. But I would have had lunch with you if you had asked me. We all know I’m a hermit cross workaholic, to self absorbed in her own crap to look up and see the world. But if I had know we would have had more lunch together. Oh regrets…

I can’t believe you now have television, after so long an absense. Next you will tell me you have satalite and taken to eating fish. Don’t change to much out west otherwise how am I to recognize you when I visit (just kidding).

I have extended my vacation. Now I am spending 5 days in London and 5 days in Paris. I’m really excited, although it is going to be such a ghetto trip.

I think you should go out more. What happen to all you ideas about doing things you never did before? Riding a moterbike and going wild.

  4. Haha! Well I dunno .. it’s easy to get used to something when it’s a daily thing, right? that’s kind of what happened at PriceMetrix!

Luckily the weather here is perfect for outdoor lunch eating! lovely!
