People do notice what brand your flip flops are

One of my coworkers pointed at my sandals when we were going out to lunch. I was wearing them on a typical SF day – sunny but cold enough that full coverage footwear is advisable. The conversation went along the lines of :

coworker: “oh, you’ve got havianas!”

me: “My sandals? Yeah! i got them in Australia! They’re super comfy! They’re the best sandals ever!”

coworker and other coworker: “no, the most comfortable sandals ever are brand <I’ve never heard of it>!”

Amazing what people notice.

Further research about the brand indicates that Havianas are a noted trendy brand. Geez. Who knew ?? I never noticed them here! I bought into the trend in Australia cuz they were everywhere in Sydney. I thought it was suspicious to pay almost $30 (australian) bucks for sandals but i had my eyes on a silver pair with pink letters.  I love them. Made in Brazil too!

Here‘s one of many fashion websites I found documenting the trend.

  1. I have havanas, bought them because I was wearing uncomfortable shoes and was on bloor, where 20 dollar sandles are the cheapest buy. Love them, was so addicted to them I wore them everywhere. And there is a difference because I own flipflops from Old Navy and Payless. But in Brazil they are sooo cheap.

  2. There is a difference! I agree. The old navy flip flops just don’t do it for me anymore.

Oh. They’re cheap in Brazil, are they? I’m not a global citizen like you are Julie. I’m a small town girl. You know that ;)

  3. I know for a fact you’ve travelled way more then I have. You may be from a small town but you’re going to fess up to being a cosmopolitan. Anyways they’re from there, that’s why they are cheap.
